Score 88/100 · Drink 2013-2028, Pierre Rovani, Feb 2004

A tightly wound, zippy wine with mineral and chalk aromas as well as flavors, the 2002 Riesling Auslese Bockenauer Felseneck is focused, detailed, and lively. This is a light to medium-bodied wine with an almost 1996-like, high acid character. It is pure, spicy, and excellent depth of fruit can be detected within its coiled personality. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2028.

(for 375 ml.) This was harvested over a considerable period from many parcels, and fermentation was partly ambient. Mango, banana, lemon, pink grapefruit and honey aromas. Tingling, spicy botrytis notes shimmer across a pure, tropical and honeyed pool of fruit. With aeration comes more orchard fruit and smoky, citrus rind pungency, but no coarse or rough manifestations of rot. 1 star.
