Struck-flint pungency is followed by lavender and thyme perfume in a nose of head-turning intensity and fascination. The palate combines palpably high extract, textural richness and expansiveness with refreshing primary juiciness of apple and Persian melon, as well as striking smoky, stony and floral finishing nuances. As the wine’s author noted, the top Schlossböckelheim sites can sometimes generate ripeness at the expense of precision or animation, but not in this instance.

The 2014 Kupfergrube Riesling trocken GG displays a deep, dark and flinty bouquet full of stones, herbs and purity, and some ripe Riesling berry flavors. Round and very elegant on the palate, this is a deep, intense, nicely fruity and powerful Riesling with perfect ripe fruit and a racy acidity that is very well integrated. The alcohol is moderate here at 12.6% or 12.7%. This is spectacular dry Riesling.
Yes! Intoxicating and esoteric yet completely valid and balanced – a really delicious mouthful. Leafy, limey, honeyed and perfumed with rare scent – jasmine, clove, honeysuckle. One of the pinnacles of Grosses Gewächs in 2014. (RH)
