Tasting notes
My favorite in the lineup was the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Special Family Reserve, which comes all from Coombsville and Clone 7 Cabernet Sauvignon. Brought up in new barrels, its vivid purple hue is followed by a gorgeous perfume of red and blue fruits, sappy spring flowers, and subtle tobacco and herbal undertones. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, this seamless, concentrated, yet elegant 2019 has good freshness, ripe tannins, and a great finish. Drink bottles any time over the coming 20-25 years.

Selected from the same parcel of vines as the 2018, Meteor's 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Special Family Reserve boasts those same enticing notes of camphor, creosote and cassis, but it comes across as just slightly bigger and rounder in the mouth, despite coming in lower in labeled alcohol (14.6% versus 14.8%). Full-bodied, richly concentrated and velvety in feel, with a tremendously long finish, this is another age-worthy beauty from Coombsville.
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Special Family Reserve shows all of the savory, minerally intensity that is such a Coombsville signature. Inky dark fruit, chocolate, new leather, licorice, lavender and mocha envelop the palate. The 2019 offers tons of richness and yet also remains light on its feet for such a big wine.
