Healthy dark red. Cool aromas of blackberry, minerals and black olive. Juicy and fine-grained but tightly wound, conveying a firm spine of acidity and tannins to its flavors of black fruits and spices. The firmly tannic finish displays a lingering floral quality and a faint peppery nuance. This wine will need patience.

The 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles is intensely mineral and savory in this vintage, with a sense of verticality that propels the tannins and gives the wine its sense of energy. Plum, smoke and dried herb nuances meld together in the glass. The 2013 finishes with substantial power and intensity. In 2013, the Evocelles is an overachiever among its peers.

(from vines planted in the 1950s in what was formerly a quarry): Healthy dark red. Aromas of kirsch , licorice, smoke and crushed stone. Boasts lovely creamy depth to its flavors of blackberry, boysenberry, bitter chocolate and licorice, with bright mineral-driven acidity giving the wine a slightly tart edge in the early going. A distinctly cold, high-altitude style of Gevrey; the tannins clamp down on the back end, but the finish nevertheless leaves behind a violet perfume. Bachelet purchased these vines in 2011.

Back this year after being blended with the Village in 2012, the 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles has a very complex nose with sultry black fruit intermingled with ash and damp moss aromas. The palate is very pure on the entry with a touch of bitter lemon infusing the bright black cherries and bilberry notes. There is very fine structure towards the tensile and linear finish that lingers nicely in the mouth. Welcome back!
