Much tighter, focused, and structured, the 2019 Syrah Seymour's has gorgeous deep black fruits as well as classic iodine, iron, ground pepper, and bloody, meaty nuances. Rich, full-bodied, and powerful, it needs 4-5 years of bottle age but will be just about immortal. It's clearly the most concentrated, structured, inward wine in 2019 and is another testament to the genius of John Alban.

I tasted the 2019 Syrah Seymour's Vineyard on July 8, shortly after its bottling in June. It has pure aromas of blueberries, blackcurrant, violet and dark earth with nuances of fresh mint leaves, salami, licorice, garrigue and cracked pepper. Full-bodied yet light on its feet, the palate features restrained, graphite-laced fruit at this early stage. It has loads of powerful, rounded tannins and seamless freshness and is still coiled on the finish. It's a gorgeous Syrah that deserves another five years in bottle to unwind. This will be released in the spring of 2024.
