Score 88-91/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2004
(this and the subsequent wines were tasted directly from barrel in the family's Volnay cellar) Good red. Pure, liqueur-like aromas of raspberry and earth. Juicy, minerally and precise, with a strong stony component giving the wine excellent inner-palate energy. Very fine-grained wine of noteworthy precision, despite its relatively high pH. (As a rule, the pHs were in the 3.5-3.6 range in 2002, says Etienne, and the wines were not acidified; nor was anything chaptalized.)

Domaine de Montille
Volnay’s Domaine de Montille is one of the most historic in the Côte d’Or. Founded in 1730, the property remains family-owned and run, with Etienne de Montille – the ninth generation – at the helm today.
