Score 95/100 · Drink 2000-2030, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Feb 2025

This year, I drank two bottles of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti's 1980 Richebourg Grand Cru, and while neither can match the stunning bottle I enjoyed in 2020, both were superb, offering up this wine's striking bouquet of peonies, orange rind and spices mingled with beautifully pure notes of raspberries and plums. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and suave, with melting tannins and a long, perfumed finish, there is some bottle variation today (the wine was bottled barrel-by-barrel without racking, and what's more, it's over 40 years old), but it remains well worth seeking out.

Domaine de la Romanee-Conti

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti or simply “DRC” is without doubt the most famous domaine in Burgundy and one of the most famous producers on earth. The Grand Cru vineyard from which it takes its name produces the world’s most expensive wine by a long margin.
