Tasting notes
The 2013 Riesling Alte Reben contains all of the Grosse Lagen except of Pergentsknopp, Gottesfuss and Goldberg, due to reduced quantities of one or one and a half fuder per site. Beautifully ripe apple and stimulatingly piquant slate aromas on the nose of the Alte Reben lead to a rich, elegant and well-balanced palate that is juicy and salty and very precise at the same time. The finish is very long and salty. This is the Best Buy of 2013 of this further growing estate.

Cask sample. Whereas I used to find the essence of gravelly minerality in the Alte Reben, in 2013 the old vines seem to have taken a more conciliatory approach, grapefruit, lime and sweet pear adding a substantial contribution of fruit to the customary core of salty and quinine components. The acidity of the vintage has been expertly tamed, giving the Alte Reben a harmonious appearance which previous vintages needed longer to achieve. (MS)
