Score 94/100 · Drink 2003-2013, Robert Parker, Jan 2003
My favorite Mills Vineyard offering to date, the 1988 is an amazing tour de force in Pinot Noir winemaking. The color is a deep plum/purple, and the bouquet offers up a spectacular aromatic profile of black fruits, gamy, roasted meats, underbrush, and flowers. Dense, full-bodied, opulently-textured, and remarkably sweet and pure, this extraordinary Pinot Noir will last another decade. It admirably demonstrates what the limestone soils of Calera’s Mt. Harlan vineyard can produce. A brilliant wine still in its adolescence. Wow!
