The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino is wonderfully fresh, showing bright cherry with a mix of herbs and zesty spices, both sweet and savory in the glass, giving way to dusty earth tones. On the palate, silky textures are complimented by ripe cherry backed by bracing acids, as spices saturate the senses amidst pretty inner florals and slow mounting structure. The finish is long, zesty and fresh, as tart red fruits linger, along with saturating spice and hints of round tannin, presenting an easy-to-like, young Brunello from start to finish.

Tasted blind. Mid to deep ruby. A little reductive/stalky with sweet, concentrated dark fruit underneath. Quite a bit of concentration and richness of fruit on the palate with muscular, slightly drying tannins. But the plentiful fruit persists. Needs more time, and has the building blocks for it. (WS)

The Loacker Schwarhof 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Corte Pavone is an immediate and softly textured wine that is packed tight with black fruit aromas, tobacco and touches of exotic spice. This is a robust and full-bodied expression that covers the palate with thick layers of fruit intensity. The wine is fermented in Austrian and French oak casks using ambient yeasts. It then sees three years of barrel aging. The wine ends with sweet tannins and thick fiber that bodes well for a near- and medium-term drinking window. Some 8,200 bottles were released in January 2020.
