Tasting notes
Lots of iodine and seaside-like nuances, as well as beautiful peppery herbs and dark fruits, emerge from the 2018 Panoplie. Based on 64% Mourvèdre, 24% Syrah, and 12% Grenache, this medium to full-bodied Mourvèdre builds nicely with time in the glass, has ripe yet present tannins, and an overall fresh, elegant style. There are 800 cases produced, and it’s going to drink nicely for 15 years or more.

Inky violet. A powerfully scented, complex bouquet displays mineral-accented boysenberry, cassis, cherry liqueur, licorice and smoky mineral aromas that expand and become spicier with air. Sweet, deeply concentrated black/blue fruit, spice-cake, smoked meat and candied lavender flavors show impressive energy given their heft. Chewy, steadily mounting tannins shape a powerful, smoke-accented finish that hangs on with suave, floral-driven tenacity. (JR)
Pale to medium ruby-purple in color, the 2018 Panoplie is incredibly fragrant with aromas of lilac, lavender, dusty earth, licorice and tangerine peel. The palate is medium to full-bodied with lovely layers of spices, flowers and earth supported by a firm, ripe structure and finishing long with great freshness and perfume.
Saturated ruby. Mineral- and smoke-accented black and blue fruit, candied licorice and potpourri on the highly perfumed nose, along with a cracked pepper nuance that adds spicy lift. Densely packed, alluringly sweet cherry, blueberry and spicecake flavors are supported by a core of smoky minerality that lends back-end cut. Displays a sexy floral quality on the extremely persistent finish, which is framed by smooth, harmonious tannins.
