The 2013 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast is actually a terrific value. (Production is 800 cases, and at $25, it is a stunner). This is made primarily from the Pommard clone, Dijon clone 828 and the Mt. Eden. Dark ruby in color with lush notes of pomegranate, pepper, rose petals and black cherry, the wine is lush, authentic, and supple in the mouth, with surprising concentration. It’s a rather remarkable value and a sleeper of this vintage. Drink it over the next 3-4 years.

The 2013 Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) is a dark, brooding beauty. Far less open and accessible than the 2012 was at the same stage, the 2013 is a real powerhouse. Black cherries, smoke, plums, spices, new leather and smoke hit the palate as this brooding, intense Pinot shows off its personality. Hints of lavender and violets add nuance on the close. The 2013 was made from fully destemmed fruit. Readers will need to be patient with the 2013, as it needs at least a year or two in barrel. This is one of the very best Pinots readers will find for the money, from any region.
