Good ruby-red. Ripe aromas of blackberry, blueberry, truffle, licorice, cocoa powder and charred oak. Concentrated and firmly built, with flavors of sweet dark berries, tobacco, leather, game and currant leaf. Finishes with dusty, fine tannins that still need a year or two to harmonize with the wine's fruit. (The 2003 from barrel came across as less ripe and weighty but quite perfumed, with a strong note of graphite.)
Very good full ruby. Subdued aromas of blackberry, licorice and dark chocolate. More brooding and monolithic today than the 2001. Shows strong black fruit flavors but comes across as rather musclebound today, with its tannins tougher and less integrated.
