Underbrush, herbs, plums, figs, blueberries, and cherries jump from the glass of the exotic and flamboyant 2002 Pinot Noir Zio Tony Ranch. This wine has a deep plum/ruby/purple-tinged color, a wonderful sweet entry on the palate, ripe but noticeable tannins, and a large, full-bodied finish. It is not the most elegant style, but it is pure and impressively endowed. Drink it over the next 5-7 years. Tel. (707) 525-0570; Fax (707) 525-9463

Dark ruby-red. Complex, subtle nose combines strawberry, espresso, minerals, smoke and meat. Juicy, precise and vibrant, yet also silky and voluptuous; a step up in clarity and nuance over the foregoing samples. Very nicely balanced pinot noir, finishing with fine tannins and excellent length. As with the chardonnay from this vineyard, an excellent debut vintage.

Martinelli

Martinelli is a Sonoma benchmark for vineyard-designate bottlings—wines built to highlight how strongly a single site can shape Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, and Zinfandel. Across the range, the focus stays consistent: small-production bottlings that feel distinctly tied to where they’re grown.
