La Palazzetta's 2015 Brunello di Montalcino shows dark fruit definition and medium-rich concentration. Showcasing the purity of Sangiovese (with fruit harvested from 30-year-old vines), thanks especially to its lingering nuances of crushed flower, earth and wild cherry. Sangiovese from the Montalcino area of southern Tuscany often offers notes of rusty nail or reddish clay brick, and you get both of those aromas here. Open this bottle a few hours early before serving it with a roast and potatoes au gratin. It takes a while, but this bouquet does openly nicely. Some 25,000 bottles were released. Fruit is organic and fermentation is completed with ambient yeasts.

Tasted blind. Just mid ruby. Balsamic nose with a hint of garden mint. Very reluctant, closed palate, but without the necessary depth for it to emerge after more age. The tannins are quite dominant on the finish. (WS)
