Tasting notes
No 2018 was produced from the Camiño Novo vineyard, an 80-year-old plot in the Doade-Amandi zone, where the soils are rich in schist and slate and the steep slopes are located at an altitude of 430 meters. The field blend is dominated by Mencía with some 10% Garnacha Tintorera (or Alicante Bouschet). So, after the 2017 we jumped to the 2019 Lousas Parcela Camiño Novo from a very balanced year, when the blend was approximately 85% Mencía, 12% Alicante Bouschet and 3% other grapes (Brancellao, Merenzao, Alicante, Grao Negro, etc.). It fermented with 95% full clusters and a 41-day maceration. The élevage was in neutral 500-liter oak barrels and lasted one year, during which time the wine was kept in contact with the lees without being racked. It has 13.3% alcohol, good freshness and pristine balance. It's very tidy, symmetrical and precise, a gentleman with a perfect hairdo. 1,300 bottles were filled in December 2020.
