The 2009 Volnay Les Angles is delicate, perfumed and sensual. Expressive red berries, spices and mint flow effortlessly from this refined Volnay. A fresh, vibrant finish rounds things out nicely. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. These five 2009s all met or exceeded my expectations based on what I tasted from barrel during my last visit. Over the last few years there has been no shortage of fabulous wines in this cellar. Importer: Rosenthal Wine Merchant, Pine Plains, NY; tel. (800) 910-1990
Good fresh red. Slightly liqueur-like black raspberry, black cherry, licorice and spices on the nose. Very ripe, sweet and fine-grained, with nicely integrated acidity and substantial supple tannins framing the dark fruit flavors. This full but fresh wine seems to be closing down in the bottle. Boillot ventured the opinion that his 2009s were rounder in late October and were tightening up due to the non-stop fog that began a couple weeks prior to my mid-November visit here. (I can certainly vouch for the fog, behind which Burgundy's hillsides were virtually invisible until the last few days of my tour.)
The 2009 Volnay Les Angles is a complete, harmonious wine layered with perfumed bright red fruits, spices and flowers. This is delicate and silky on the palate, but with notable persistence and a fleshy close.
