Tasting notes
Lurid ruby-red. Highly perfumed, mineral- and spice-tinged aromas of fresh red and dark berries, incense and sandalwood are joined by a sexy floral nuance. Seamless and sweet on the palate, offering intense raspberry liqueur, spicecake and lavender pastille flavors and a bracing jolt of blood orange on the back half. Closes smooth, spicy and impressively long, with outstanding clarity and gentle tannins lending grip.

The 2013 Pinot Noir Botanica has a little more aromatic depth than the 2013 Ceras, the fruit more red than the black, with scents of wild strawberry, dried orange peel, dried quince and mossy undergrowth. The palate is very smooth on the entry with red cherries, freshly picked strawberry and a pinch of white pepper. There is good density and backbone on the finish, especially considering the growing season. I appreciate the persistence here, the hints of dried blood and morels on the aftertaste imparting character and complexity. Savor this over several years.
