Score 92/100 · Drink 2015-2026, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Nov 2013

The 2011 Zinfandel Grist Vineyard is another of the more pointed, focused wines in the range. In this vintage, the Grist is a wine of length and persistence more than breadth. The aromas and flavors remain bright and focused throughout. Today, the wine comes across as a bit compact and in need of further bottle age to soften.

(15.5% alcohol; from vines planted at 1,400 feet): Bright red-ruby. Aromas of blackberry, black cherry and licorice. Inviting flavors of ripe red fruits, pepper and spices along with a supple texture and good verve give this youthful zinfandel considerable early appeal. But with its peppery aromatics and acids that accentuate the mountain tannins, it should be even better with a few years in the cellar.

Turley's 2011 Zinfandel Grist Vineyard is a bit compact in this vintage. High-toned sweet red berries and crushed flowers emerge from the glass, but the overall impression is of a wine that is quite marked by the year. I imagine the 2011 will drink best upon release and for a few years beyond that.
