Colour deep ruby. Not especially aromatic but convincingly dense. Lots of acidity and tannin with, just, enough quite dry mulch-like fruit in the middle. Doesn’t sing as loudly as Courbis and Durand but pretty good. Dry finish. (JR)

The 1999 Cornas Vieilles Vignes is a star of the vintage. It is a black/purple-colored, dense, full-bodied offering with gobs of smoky blackberry fruit and scorched earth notes. It should be drinkable young, yet keep for 15+ years. Importer: New Castle Imports, Myrtle Beach, SC; tel. (843) 497-8625
