Tasting notes
(13% alcohol): Deep, dark ruby to the rim; the two Pride 1995s were among the darkest wines of my tasting. Fruit-driven aromas of black cherry and blackberry liqueur are still quite youthful. On the palate, concentrated briary black fruit and licorice flavors are nicely supported by firm acidity. This rather burly mountain Cabernet still shows a medicinal reserve. Finishes with big, chewy, tongue-dusting tannins and resounding length. This brooding Cabernet Sauvignon is still evolving.

(13% alcohol): Dark red with a ruby core. Sexy aromas of briary black raspberry, blackberry and licorice; really amazing retention of fruit here. Lush and sweet but firm and nicely delineated too, with flavors of blackberry, minerals and brown spices complicated by an herbal element. Offers lovely finesse of texture and inner-palate energy. Finishes with substantial, slightly dry-edged tannins and very good length. This wine is loaded with material and is evolving remarkably slowly.
The 1995 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve has come of age now that it is in the bottle. This is the essence of North Coast Cabernet Sauvignon, offering port-like thickness and richness, a superb black currant, mineral, cedar, and pain grille-scented nose, full-bodied flavors of extraordinary intensity and overall balance, and a long, moderately tannic, multidimensional finish. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2025. Shame on me for underestimating this beauty! This is a limited production offering from Pride Mountain Vineyards. Tel. (707) 963-4949
