Loosen’s 2004 Erdener Treppchen Riesling Spatlese smells of lemon, tangerine, distilled herbs, and flowers. It is notably sweet on the palate, which only enhances its Chartreuse-like distilled side. In the finish, smoky, salty accents lend additional interest to a sherbet-like expression of citrus and persistent notes of distilled herbs and flowers. Importer: Loosen Brothers, Portland, OR; tel. Full, green leaves, racy wine with great acidity and sleek fruit. Some grapefruit and still a little astringency. (JR)
