Score 16.5/20 · Drink 2014-2025, Jancis Robinson MW, Jan 2015

Light cherry, anise and orange peel, dried pine and conifer. Electric, ultra-stimulating acidity with dusty tannin and an ultra-long finish. This wine is simultaneously ultra-lean and ultra-focused, verging on strict. The Ama offers more fruit, spice and mineral components than the other Peay Pinots, as well as light hints of smoke. The 2011 Pinot Noir Ama Estate is striking for its expressive aromatics, purity of fruit and superb overall balance. Freshly cut flowers, crushed rocks, bright red fruit and mint all jump from the glass. The 2011 is all about precision and nuance. A pulsating, mineral-drenched finish makes it impossible to resist a second taste. What a gorgeous and totally classy wine this is.
