The 2015 Pinot Noir McDougall Ranch has turned out even better than I expected. Today, the McDougall is quite closed in on itself, but that is probably a very good sign for its potential longevity. Blood orange, sweet red cherry, mint and rose petal notes lead into the textured, dense finish.

935 ft elevation and just 3.5 miles from the Pacific. Planted in 1998 with clone 114 next to Hirsh vineyard. 100% whole cluster, no new oak. Bright crimson. Sweet, intense, jewelly impact. Strong green whole bunch impact on the palate – a little too dominant for my taste. More whole bunch than the vineyard? Slightly pinched finish. Maybe it will all round out with time. (JR)

The 2015 Pinot Noir McDougall Ranch is the biggest and most opulent of these Pinots from Jamie Kutch. The 100% whole clusters are pretty much buried by the sheer intensity of the fruit.
