Total production 150 cases. His first vintage from this 41-year-old vineyard at 800 ft, the first to be planted on the Sonoma Coast, according to Kutch, that is a source of fruit for many illustrious names, including Flowers. Just 2-3 miles from the ocean. California sprawl, so some fruit is a little shaded, some fully exposed. He doesn't use the fruit that is too shaded – just a few pink berries. This smells deeper and a little riper fruited than the Falstaff – and it gets more sun than that site. Tasting the wine from barrel, Kutch was worried by the power of the tannins but they seem to have settled and softened after time in barrel. The tannins are definitely firmer and more compact than in the Falstaff but they are paper fine and leave your mouth feeling clean and dry. Very long and starts quite linear, filling out a little in the middle before focusing again on the fresh, dry, firm finish. (JH)

The Kutch 2013 Pinot Noir Bohan Vineyard hits the palate with surprising depth, power and intensity, all pretty unusual for this part of the Sonoma Coast. The 2013 is a wine of pure verticality and primary flavors, so readers will have to be patient. This is Jamie Kutch's first Pinot from Bohan, a historic, dry-farmed parcel on the Sonoma Coast. The first two vintages suggest the Bohan is going to be a fairly structured, tannic Pinot.

100% whole bunch, ambient yeast, fruit punched down twice a day by foot. 30% new oak. Aged on lees for 10 months with no racking. Bright crimson. Brave, dry wine with a very fresh finish. Really direct and energetic with a lot more life than the regular Sonoma Coast bottling. Already lots of fun to drink. (JR)
