Score 89+/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous
Bright dark red. Reticent nose opened to show red fruits, scotch, vanilla and rose petal. Fat, silky and lush in the mouth, with burnished oak notes and complex flavors of redcurrant, strawberry and orange peel. Still a bit youthfully disjointed due to the strong oak component but already shows a more sophisticated texture-and more verve-than the '98. Tannins are serious but fine.
