Score 89/100 · Drink 2002-2008, Robert Parker, Aug 2002

The 2000 Zinfandel Dogtown (16.2% alcohol) is a huge effort. It is not as complex as some of its siblings, but it offers copious amounts of straightforward berry fruit intermixed with balsam wood, earth, and spice characteristics. The wine is full, with loads of glycerin, but not the nuances displayed by the other Zins. It will drink well for 4-6 years. (Release date 10/02) Tel. (707) 963-0940; Fax (707) 963-8683

Good full red. Perfumed aromas of red berries, clove and pepper. Dense, spicy and intense, with brisk acidity giving the wine verve and delicacy and extending the flavors. Has a sappy juicy quality. Relies more on its acids than its fairly light tannins for structure. Don't think of Lodi as a uniformly hot area, says winemaker Jordan, pointing out that these vines were harvested later than the overwhelming majority of Napa Valley zinfandel in 2000.
