Score 90/100 · Drink 2019-2024, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, Mar 2021

From the chalky clay soils of the hills separating Sancerre from Chavignol, the 2016 Sancerre Les Baronnes is bright, fresh and aromatic on the elegant and even floral nose, where perfectly ripe and lush, yellow-fleshed fruit aromas are displayed. The palate is generously juicy, loaded with tropical fruits, and it reveals fine tannins intertwined with carbon dioxide and salivating salinity. Gooseberries and stone fruits in the aftertaste. This 2016 drinks perfectly today.

About the producer

Verre Glass of Wine
Henri Bourgeois

Although the family had long grown vines in Sancerre, it was in the 1950s that Henri Bourgeois started championing the wines of Chavignol. The property grew from two to 65 hectares, spread between Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, and is one of the standard-bearers for the region.
