The 2016 Santenay Les Champs Claude has a pretty, quite pure bouquet with red cherries and touches of undergrowth coming through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with quite sharp tannin on the entry, very good acidity and then it calms down towards the finish with hints of charcoal/ash littering the red fruit on the finish. This is a good, solid Santenay without the frills. Tasted at Flint Wines' Value Burgundy tasting.

Very pale crimson. Slightly muddy nose with masses of fruit on the front palate. A slightly austere style but true. Needs a bit of time probably. (JR)

Cask sample. Lightish crimson. A little stemmy on the nose but not excessive, gives it a dusty/mineral character. Very dry but not drying, relatively slight but balanced in a lighter style. (JH)
