The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon S.L.V. is a potent, full-bodied wine. Dark cherry/plum fruit, espresso, licorice, chocolate, incense and sweet French oak are dialed up. The 2015 is approaching its first plateau of maturity. I would prefer to drink it over the next decade, as the fruit feels a bit roasted in quality. This is quite the powerhouse. Huge, searing tannins remain.

The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon S.L.V. packs a serious punch. Super-ripe black cherry, plum, lavender and spice all meld together. There is good depth to the fruit, albeit in a more mid-weight style than is the norm, but even that can't fully compensate for aggressive tannins and a sense of roughness that very clearly runs through the wine.
A barrel sample, the deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon S. L. V. offers up aromas of pepper, spice box, lavender and potpourri with mulberries, black cherries and black berries at the core, plus plum preserves and bay leaves hints. Medium to full-bodied with fine-grained tannins, the palate is firm and earthy with a long, minerally finish.
About the producer
Warren Winiarski founded Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars in 1970 when he purchased the Stag’s Leap Vineyard in Napa’s Stags Leap District. The 1973 S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon – only the second vintage – won the famous 1976 Judgement of Paris blind tasting, rocketing the estate to fame.
