Score 94/100 · Robert Parker, Aug 1994

Last Tasted 6/94 Diamond Creek's 1974 Cabernets are, justifiably, highly renowned. The rich, plum color with amber at the edge is followed by a fabulous bouquet offering lavish quantities of sweet, jammy, cassis fruit, cedar, smoke, herbs, and other black fruits. The fruit is very ripe. Given the massive flavor extraction, the moderate tannin level is nearly submerged beneath the chewy, rich fruit. With a sweet, expansive, unctuously-textured palate, and a fabulous finish that lasts nearly a minute, this is a thrilling California Cabernet that is close to full maturity.
