Score 96/100 · Antonio Galloni, Vinous, May 2020

Pure, high-pitched scents of blackberry, violet, graphite and licorice. Sharply focused, suave and seamless, boasting outstanding energy and inner-mouth perfume to its purple fruit, violet and saline mineral flavors. The subtle, rising finish goes on and on, perfuming the palate without leaving any impression of weight. Delivers an uncanny combination of density, precision and tautness, with the noble tannins melted perfectly into the wine's fruit. Splendid, but hands off now. (ST)

In 2010, Napa Valley experienced a mostly cold year punctuated by heat spikes at the end of the growing season. Those qualities come through loud and clear in the 2010 St. Eden. Although quite dense, powerful and unctuous in the glass, the 2010 is also shut down on itself. Even so, the silky, layered expression of fruit that is the key signature of this site is very much in evidence. Regal in its bearing, the 2010 is an absolutely magical bottle endowed with explosive energy.

One of the few disappointments of the night, the 2010 BOND St. Eden does not live up to my very high expectations. Perhaps the wine is going through a closed phase, but I don’t see the vibrancy and energy that are so typical of the vintage and that this wine showed when it was young. These are the mysteries of wine. Frankly, this is a perplexing showing.

This is the best single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon-based red from Bond in this vintage, showing incredible purity of fruit and seamless tannins and refinement. Amazing.
