Tasting notes
Tasted at the La Tâche vertical at The Square. It is rare to find wines from this vintage nowadays. The La Tâche 1957 has a rather bleak and lifeless nose. I don't find anything wrong with this bottle except that I am probably drinking it three decades past its best. It is short and hard, the fruit having scarpered long ago. This is past its best.

This wine will not improve any more. This was not as thrilling as I'd hoped. Very deep ruby. Dom de la Romanée-Conti colour with much shading and a yellow rim. Actually less obviously violets on the nose than the Clos de la Roche from Remy! But it opened up in the glass – some luscious mushroom cream sauce aromas – and was really energetic although the acidity is coming to the fore, alas. (JR)
About the producer

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti or simply “DRC” is without doubt the most famous domaine in Burgundy and one of the most famous producers on earth. The Grand Cru vineyard from which it takes its name produces the world’s most expensive wine by a long margin.
