The 2022 Côte Rôtie Côte Brune displays a round, floral-driven style with plenty of violets and mixed red, blue, and black fruits. It's expansive and layered on the palate, with a sexy, seamless texture and concentrated fruit backed by plenty of ripe, polished tannins. While showing a different tannin profile compared to the Côte Blonde, it's equally, if not more, structured and deserves upwards of a decade of bottle age. Drink 2033-2062. One of the reference points for Côte Rôtie, Domaine Rostaing is now firmly in the hands of Pierre Rostaing, who continues the legacy of his father René. Farming is sustainable, and winemaking remains traditional, with full destemming (there might be a stem or two in some of these) and élevage in a mix of larger older and new French oak, with the new wood kept to a minimum. The range includes the classic Côte Rôtie Ampodium, which blends multiple parcels, as well as single lieu-dit bottlings from La Landonne, Côte Blonde, Côte Brune, and Le Viallière. A Condrieu and a Collines Rhodaniennes Syrah (Les Lézardes) round out the lineup.

The 2022 Côte-Rôtie Côte Brune is bold and profound—a true head-turner. Intricate layers of ripe black cherry, orange rind, crushed violets, cedar, rose petals, pencil shavings and a hint of black pepper captivate the senses. Medium- to full-bodied, the outstanding 2022 is firmly structured by ripe tannins. Its long, persistent finish lingers beyond the final sip, leaving a lasting impression. The 2022 demands several years in a cool cellar before the cork can be pulled.
Cask sample. Dense and ripe nose with blood, animal and wild notes, dark fruits. The palate has some richness as well and the tannins are structured and spread over the whole palate – drenching every part of your mouth. So tight at the moment. Beneath those tannins lurks sandalwood, spice and real energy. Tight and compact and the alcohol slightly creeps in on the finish. Rich, dense and with spice, blood and wild notes. (AC)
