The 2017 La Grande Rue has a deep, introspective bouquet, offering more black fruit than red; touches of oyster shell and seaweed percolate through with time. The palate is where the quality shines through, in the filigreed tannins and the wonderful sense of symmetry. Fresh as a daisy without compromising intensity, especially on the pixelated finish, which seems to go on forever. Brilliant. This far exceeded my expectations. 30% whole bunch, 50% new oak. Pale ruby. Light and fresh but it developed autumn undergrowth aromas in the glass. A little chewy on the end but no shortage of fruit. Very pure. Pure as a mountain stream, in fact. No blockbuster but a charmer. (JR)
Light to mid crimson. Sweet red fruits and a touch of vanilla, really fragrant already. The openness of the vintage shows here. Silky tannins even now, super-fine. Delicate but long, with the fruit rushing in on the finish. (JH)
