The 2019 Domaine Virginie Thunevin showed well from the barrel sample. Now in bottle, it presents precocious black cherry, mulberry and clove aromas and a touch of licorice. The palate is well balanced with grainy tannins, fine weight, and perhaps just a little strictness toward the finish, though there is decent freshness. Give this 18–24 months in bottle.
The 2019 Virginie Thunevin is packed with dark plum, cherry, leather, rose petal and sweet pipe tobacco. I would prefer to drink this racy, supple Bordeaux over the next few years, while the flavors retain their youthful vibrancy.
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 Virginie Thunevin is a little rubbery/reduced to begin, soon opening out to reveal pronounced notions of plum preserves, baked black cherries and blackberry pie with hints of tar, new leather, garrigue and smoked meats. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers bags of ripe black fruits with a chewy texture and plenty of freshness, finishing savory.
