Tasting notes
Coming from Denis Barraud's tiny 4.52-hectare vineyard planted on gravelly, sandy soils, the 2020 Château Les Gravières offers a darker, richer, medium to full-bodied style as well as notes of black cherries, plums, toasted spice, and tobacco. Made from 100% Merlot that spent 14 months in 60% new French oak, it has beautiful integration of its fruit, tannins, and acidity, plenty of mid-palate depth, and a great finish. It's well worth seeking out and has a solid decade of prime drinking ahead of it.

The 2020 Santenay Les Gravières 1er Cru comes from purchased grapes with 30% whole bunch. Redcurrant, cranberry and cassis on the nose here, quite high-toned and rich. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, nicely balanced with quite a solid, masculine finish. It just cuts away a little swiftly. Fine.
