The 2017 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is very concentrated on the nose, offering scents of citrus fruit, honeysuckle and white peach; a little grilled walnut comes through with time. Maybe it comes across a tad New World in style. The palate is balanced with ripe citrus fruit and a fine bead of acidity. Saline and taut on the finish, this just needs a few years to meld together. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.

A very classic Corton-Charlemagne that’s very powerful, but very cool and fresh with a super mineral personality. Concentrated but finely etched palate with great acidity that drives the very long, stony finish. Better from 2021.

The 2017 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is missing a little weight on the stoic, tight-lipped bouquet. The palate is well balanced, with the fatness coming through nicely. Orange peel and mandarin notes spring up toward the second half of this Corton-Charlemagne, which reveals a touch of sour lemon on the slightly abrupt finish.
