Includes 1.5% Roussanne.  TA 5.5 g/l, 14.4%. Sweet blueberry fruit and pepper on the nose. Slightly medicinal. Hint of Brett perhaps in a meaty note but not drying on the finish. Firm and dry but very finely textured. Sandy tannins give freshness. Dark savoury aftertaste, very long and elegant.  (JH)

The 2006 Warner Vineyard Shiraz contains 1.5% Roussanne. Fermented with native yeasts, it was aged for two years in 60% new oak and bottled without fining or filtration. Opaque purple-colored, the enticing nose reveals notes of wood smoke, meat, spice box, leather, blueberry, and blackberry liqueur. On the palate it exhibits an elegant personality, layers of spicy fruit, succulent flavors, and a pure finish. Give it 2-3 years and drink it through 2021. Giaconda, founded by Rick Kinzbrunner, released its first wines in 1987. It has become one of Australia’s iconic wineries and the Estate Chardonnay a reference point against which others must be measured. Importer: Negociants USA, Napa, CA; tel. (707) 259-0993

Glass-staining violet. Exotic aromas of blackberry, cassis, cherry-cola, smoked meat, musky Indian spices and violet: talk about classic syrah! Sharply focused dark fruit flavors are given complemented by refreshingly bitter cherry skin and pit qualities and pick up sweet anise pastille and candied violet on the back end. Dusty tannins frame the long, sappy finish, which strongly repeats the cassis note. Very young now, and built for the cellar.
