The 2023 Auxey-Duresses Les Closeaux is charming, delivering notes of cherries, berries and spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy palate that's soft and giving. This will drink well young.

40% whole bunch vinification. The vines are from 1962-64. A fine ruby with a pinker edge. The same heady bouquet with refined cherries and a floral touch. This is really attractive and superfine across the palate, with a clean-cut tension to finish. Alpine strawberries at the back. There is no duress in this Auxey!

The 2023 Auxey-Duresses Les Closeaux was de-stemmed entirely. Dark berry fruit mixed with touches of black tea aromas unfold on the nose. The palate is sapid on the entry with fine concentration. The 2023 is compact on the finish, and I would like to see a little more nuance. Then again, this is a Village, not a Premier Cru.
