This site, with its white soils that hug the tree line, always produces more ethereal, mineral wines, and the 2023 Volnay Ez Blanches reflects that with its pretty bouquet of plums, orange zest, spices and petals, followed by a medium-bodied, suave and precise palate.

50% whole bunch vinification from a plot planted in 1959. Rather deeper in colour, more crimson than ruby. I am not finding a vast amount of bouquet, but there is a fine bundle of fruit across the palate, dark strawberry fruit, not showing the whole bunches. Slightly drier at the finish.

The 2023 Volnay Ez Blanches comes from vines planted in 1959 and has 30% whole clusters. It has a lively, slightly leafy bouquet—maybe I would have used one or two fewer stems? The palate is medium-bodied, with sappy red berry fruit mixed with white pepper and a minerally finish that errs towards Pommard in structure. Very fine.
