Tasting notes
Sandalwood and grilled tobacco evident on the nose, this softens to show finessed tannins and fragrant peony and violet flowers. Soft red fruits overlaid with cumin and truffle. From a site that stretches from 250m-400m in altitude, with winemaker Riccardo Talenti. 60% aged in barrel (500l) and the rest in Slovenian oak barrels (250hl), then four months in bottle before release. The 2020 Brunello Di Montalcino is a jeweled red color and is ripe with aromas of cherry lozenge, black raspberries, pressed flowers, sweet herbs, and fresh leather. Medium to full-bodied, it fills the palate with supple tannins and a balanced feel. Very well done, it's approachable now and will drink well over the next 7-8 years.
The Talenti 2020 Brunello di Montalcino (with 21,000 bottles made) shows a savory side with cigar smoke and cured leather that cede to dark fruit and baked blackberry. There is a hint of earthy minerality that adds focus and sharpness to the wine's medium-bodied finish. The 2020 vintage is a bit leaner on the mid-palate.
Mid ruby. Leafy, cool cherry-fruit nose showing a hint of cardamom with aeration. Sweetly perfumed sour cherry on the palate with a layer of coating tannins. Long and deep with earthy minerally notes on the finish. Ends on lots of juice. (WS)
