Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting, the 2014 Chassagne Montrachet 1Er Cru les Caillerets from Blain-Gagnard has a tightly wound bouquet, very fresh and mineral-driven, gradually opening with attractive marine-influenced aromas such as shucked oyster shells. The palate is fresh and vibrant with a fine bead of acidity. I appreciate the harmony of this Les Caillerets, the astute manner in which the oak is integrated and the welcome dash of spice that enhances the finish. Excellent, perhaps better than when I originally encountered this at the domaine.
