The 2014 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru les Malconsorts, which was taken from cask, has a bright cranberry, raspberry and briary scented bouquet that demonstrates impressive delineation and authority. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin that render this masculine in style; indeed, I am seeking a little more flesh and precision to come through on the finish. Give this a couple of years in bottle and let's see how this turns out. But I suspect it will be a broody bugger in its youth.

(100% vendange entier; 100% new oak):Dark red-ruby. Deep, brooding aromas of medicinal black cherry, licorice and black pepper suggest a very concentrated wine. Denser and more powerful than the Beaux Monts but extremely primary, even a bit youthfully brutal, today. This extremely tactile, extract-rich wine displays serious concentration and outstanding potential but will need extended aging to express itself fully. Tannins are mouthcoating but not dry.

Very dark crimson. Some real cassis intensity. Edgy and racy. Rather aristocratic. But very youthful. (JR)
