The 2020 Brunello Di Montalcino opens with darker-toned aromatics of black raspberries, grenadine, violets, and wild herbs. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied but more intense than the 2021, with chiseled tannins, vibrant acidity, and terrific definition that builds through the finish. I really love this wine, and it had a slight edge for me over the 2021 at this tasting. Drink 2026-2046.

Pouring a jeweled deep red color, the 2020 Brunello Di Montalcino is lifted and fresh in the glass with bright Mediterranean herbs, spiced cranberries, brushy earth, incense, and fresh flowers. The palate offers lovely purity and comes to life with wonderful, vibrant, ripe red fruit, ripe tannins, refreshing acidity, and a gently warming finish with mouthwatering salinity and citrus notes of spiced orange peel on the back palate. A gorgeous Brunello, it's emblematic of this vintage in that it's enjoyable now while offering the potential to improve over the coming 12-15 years.

The Sesti 2020 Brunello di Montalcino, from the Castello di Argiano property on the southern side of the appellation, shows dried cherry aromas with baked plum and earthy sensations. This is a medium-bodied Brunello with a moderate finish. The acidity is present but not sharp, and the wine offers soft fruit tones throughout. I suggest a near or medium-term drinking window. This is a 15,000-bottle release.

Just mid ruby. Leafy cherry fruit that is still a little closed. Concentrated cherry fruit that is a little rich, but the balance with the fresh acidity and the coating tannins is near perfection. This needs time. (WS)
