The 2012 Finca Villacreces is fresher and more balanced than the 2011, a little closed and serious at first. It took time to unfurl aromas of red and black cherries, subtle spices, and hints of elegance and complexity. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins and good acidity, making it quite enjoyable and accessible. 40,000 bottles.
Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot. Vineyards planted in 1990 in Quintanilla de Onesmio at 710 m. 5,500 kg/ha. Hand harvested, punching down during fermentation and aged for 14 months in new French barrels. Ripe and positive expression on the nose, dairy notes, chocolate, ripe black fruit, plums and good quality oak flavours. Very creamy and textured, palatable oak and savoury back palate. The oak dominates but it has enough fruit concentration to cope with it. Good balance and acceptable touch of farmyard on the aftertaste. (FC)
