Score 90-92/100 · Drink 2030-2050, Neal Martin, Jan 2025

The 2023 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a backward nose that seems to be hiding in its shell at the moment. Nothing wrong with that at this stage. The palate is medium-bodied. Some fine wood tannins mask the fruit here, with a touch of white pepper on the finish that feels quite "solid." This will require five or six years in bottle.

Cask sample. Mid-deeper ruby. Dark red cherry, raspberry on the nose and palate, with some fragrant roses too. Depth and concentration of a grand cru vineyard with ripe, rich texture to match. Fresh, crisp acidity with soft, enveloping, well-knit tannins. Long, dense finish, turning up the intensity at the end. (MH)
