Tasting notes
Score 92/100 · Drink 2026-2036, Audrey Frick, jebdunnuck.com, May 2026

The 2024 Guidalberto pours a deep ruby hue and is bright and expressive with notes of graphite, rosemary, thyme, redcurrant, cranberry, orange, and clove spice. Medium to full-bodied, it has a more vertical profile, with zesty acidity, chalky structure, and a nimble, refined texture. Fresh and balanced, with a focus on clarity over weight, this wine is reflective of the cooler, rainy 2024 season. Drink 2026-2036. The wines for this report were tasted at the estate with production manager Carlo Paoli and the Tenuta San Guido winemaking team. Graziana Grassini is their enology consultant for the estate’s Cabernet Sauvignon.

The 2024 Guidalberto is laced with succulent dark red fruit, cedar, spice, pipe tobacco, licorice and dried herbs. Supple and easygoing, the 2024 is a wine to drink over the near and medium term. There's a touch of evolution in the bouquet that reinforces this impression. The 58% Cabernet Sauvignon and 42% Merlot, less Merlot than usual because of the challenges of the growing season. Production is down by about 25%.

Full, embossed bottle 1,261 g. 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 48% crop-thinned Merlot picked between 28 August and 5 October. Aged 13 months in oak barriques (90% French and 10% from Hungary, Slavonia and Germany). 40% new and 60% used barrels. pH 3.46, TA 6.12 g/l. Pale crimson. Sweet, red-cherry richness on the nose and then some fresh acidity but this is much less distinctive, and less persistent, than its Le Difese stablemate. (JR)

The Tenuta San Guido 2024 Guidalberto shows spice and drive through the mid-palate, opening with fragrant notes of cherry shaped by its equal blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is lively and punchy in character with lifted aromatics and fine definition, supported by bright acidity that keeps the palate fresh and agile. Tannins show a touch of dryness, adding grip and structure, while the overall impression remains energetic and easy to appreciate.
