Healthy medium red. Initially a bit dusty and reduced, but showed pungent red berry aromas and a musky smoky quality with air. Broad, ripe and fairly full but not showing quite the energy of a barrel sample I tasted a year ago. But this distinctly reduced wine gained in sweetness and dimension with air, eventually finishing with very good breadth and length and late hints of smoke and meat. This calls for some patience.

The 2013 Nuits-Saint-Georges La Richemone is still a bit raw, but it also just finished its fermentation two weeks ago. The overall impression is of a deep, pliant wine endowed with notable depth. Iron, smoke, cedar and dark red stone fruits wrap around the generous finish. As always, there is a nod to Vosne in this vineyard on the northern side of Nuits.

(this finished its malo just two weeks before my visit, whereas the rest of these 2013s finished in July or August): Bright, dark red. Very ripe but reserved aromas of cherry and smoke are a bit blocked by the recent sulfur addition. On the palate, dark fruit flavors are framed by brisk acidity, with pronounced minerality contributing to the impression of cut and inner-mouth tension. Almost painfully tight today on the sappy, saline, long finish, which features dusty tannins and repeating minerality. This will require patience.
