Tasting notes
The 2007 V.S. is pure Tinto Fino aged for 30-33 months in new and 2nd fill casks (French and American.) It has a very ripe nose displaying touches of fresh prune and fig, and a little volatility is noticeable with time in the glass. The palate is full-bodied with sweet, ripe, fleshy tannins and a surprising softness and finesse not implied by the bouquet. It is very harmonious with seductive raspberry and wild strawberry flavors on the supple finish. This fine Tempranillo is just let down by a little aromatic over-ripeness, but it will appeal to hedonists. Drink 2013-2020. Bodegas Mauro is owned by Alberto and Eduardo Garcia. Their vineyards are predominantly located on the left bank of the Duero River, although due to historical local politics their sites are excluded from the DO of Ribera del Duero. They have apparently come to terms with that and are, of course, able to work without the restrictions imposed by authorities. They own 55 hectares of vines, mostly Tinto Fino on north facing slopes at 780 meters above sea level. Importer: Christopher Cannan; www.europvin.com
